In my opinion, winter is one of the most underrated seasons in Michigan. If you know where to look, and don't mind bundling up, there is so much fun to be had outdoors during the snowy season. And often you'll find there are far fewer crowds and people traveling this time of year which makes discovering the hidden gems more enjoyable. Below are a few of my favorite adventures throughout the years. You can also check out my list of highly recommended winter gear to help you stay warm and dry. There is a reason it's been coined "Charlevoix the Beautiful." This charming northern Michigan town is sandwiched between Lake Charlevoix and Lake Michigan and has so much to offer during all seasons. A few years ago, I visited during the fall for a leaf peeping adventure so I was excited to be back in the winter. Not only are the crowds much smaller than during the peak summer months, there are so many unique adventures to be had. Keep reading to discover four outdoor adventures you must add to your Michigan winter bucket list.

Over the last few years, we rather unexpectedly created a tradition of spending New Year's Eve in Northern Michigan and ringing in the New Year on the ski slopes. This year we kept with tradition and spent the weekend in Traverse City. This is one of my favorite destinations in all of Michigan (read more here). While I had visited several times, I had never been in the winter so I was excited to explore all the area had to offer in the snowy season.
Disclaimer: Our trip was planned in partnership with Visit Traverse City. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own. There is truly nothing like the magic of Northern Michigan. While many people flock up north in the summer, there is so much to see and explore in the snowy season (and without the crowds!) Whether you're looking to hit the slopes, have a drink in a tent or igloo, or simply snuggle up in a cozy Airbnb for the weekend, you'll find it in Beulah, Michigan.
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! This time of year seems to fly by and the month of December is always a race to squeeze in all the twinkling lights, hot chocolate, Christmas music and festive fun that one person can manage. That's why I was so excited for the opportunity to head down to Hamilton County, Indiana for a weekend packed full of holiday magic. One of my favorite parts about living in Michigan is getting to experience all four seasons. Each brings their own unique beauty and variety of activities to the area. This winter I've made it a goal of mine to opt outside as much as possible so I was very excited for the opportunity to be a tourist in my town and create my own winter bucket list in Southwest Michigan.
Whether its snowboarding down a sand dune, sipping wine in an igloo, or attending a local festival, there is so much fun to be had in Southwest Michigan during the snowy season. Did you know Southwest Michigan is one of five American Viticulture Areas in Michigan? The sloping terrain along the lakeshore, mild temperatures and variety of soils make it the perfect location for growing grapes and other fruits that serve as the inspiration for a vast array of award winning wines. In fact, our growing season has been compared to noteworthy destinations such as Bordeaux, France and Piedmont, Italy.
With more than 22 wineries dotting the landscape along the Maker's Trail, you can easily enjoy an afternoon or an entire weekend with a glass in hand. In fact, the winter months offer an entirely new experience featuring more secluded tasting rooms, mulled wine options, and a variety of experiences that are unique to the snowy season. "People don't notice if it's winter or summer when they're happy." -Anton Chekhov
I've recently decided to make this my new life motto. Living in Michigan all my life, I've experienced my fair share of winters and trust me, they can be brutal. I used to spend my days counting down until the summer sun was back again but there really is so much beauty (and fun) to be had in the snowy season! I had the opportunity to pack my bags and hit the road to head north to one of my favorite Michigan towns, Petoskey, for an ultimate winter weekend getaway. We spent three days packed full of good food, wine, adventure, and even some fresh snow. Disclaimer: This post was sponsored by Petoskey Area Visitor's Bureau.
