If there’s one Midwest destination that continues to surprise me in all seasons, it has to be South Bend, Indiana. There is truly so much to see and do in this area and always something new popping up! We had so much fun on our recent visit and got to enjoy some of our favorite snowy season adventures like tubing and ice skating, while also trying out some new activities like duck pin bowling and a cat cafe. Whether you love to get outside and make the most of snowy season fun, or you’d rather adventure indoors, I’ve rounded up the best places to visit for the perfect winter weekend getaway. If you’re in search of your next family-friendly Midwest road trip destination, I have the perfect spot...and the location may surprise you! Greater Lafayette, Indiana is located along the scenic Wabash River offering access to two great cities and one historic university with a perfect blend of history, modern attractions, unique animal encounters, and hands on exploration for kids of all ages. We visited when my daughter was around 2 years old and we had the best time. Many of the places we stopped at would also be great for older kids and even teenagers. Labor Day weekend typically marks the unofficial end of summer, and my sister and I couldn't let the season pass without squeezing in one last girl's weekend getaway. We packed our bags and headed 4.5 hours south to French Lick, Indiana where we spent two nights at the beautiful French Lick Resort. It was my first time visiting and I had heard so many great things about the area, including the breathtaking history and architecture of the hotel itself. We were blessed with lots of sunshine and had two days packed full of adventure, with of course some time for a little pampering and relaxation.

As much of the United States begins to open up after nationwide shutdowns in response to COVID-19, many of us, myself included, are beginning to research and plan for summer and fall travel. Perhaps more important than deciding where to go, is deciding how you can do so safely. This summer I think we'll see a lot more people choosing to travel locally and opting to pack up the car and hit the road as opposed to booking a flight. With that in mind, I started to make a list of Midwest destinations I wanted to explore, and Fort Wayne - Indiana's second largest city - was top on my list. Located just a short drive from most major cities, it makes the perfect weekend getaway with many outdoor attractions and activities which allow you to enjoy the summer sun while maintaining your distance from others. Keep reading to discover how we spent a weekend in the city!

The best trips I've taken always involve some sort of adventure. Hiking, biking, snorkeling, helicopter tours - I've had the chance to do some pretty memorable activities over the years. So when I learned that South Bend, Indiana offered two adventures I had never tried before (and a few of my favorite pastimes), I was all in! Located only 30 minutes from southwest Michigan, South Bend is most well known as home to the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. But who knew the city also offered so many other ways to get your adrenaline racing!
I teamed up with Visit South Bend to put together an adventure seeker's guide to the city. With only one night in the city we didn't waste any time packing in as much excitement and thrill as possible in just 24 hours. Read more to discover four adventures you'll want to add to your bucket list ASAP. Disclaimer: I partnered with Visit South Bend for this trip. They hosted us for an overnight stay at Hilton Garden Inn and provided complimentary activities. All thoughts and opinions are my own. |
