10/1/2022 2 Comments Girl's Trip to Bellaire, Michigan
There is nothing more refreshing for the soul than a girl's weekend away with some of your best friends. When we started talking about this trip, we knew we wanted to explore Northern Michigan but since there is so much to see and do it can be hard to decide on where to stay. When you're traveling with a larger group (we had 7 girls) it can also be difficult to find lodging that meets all your needs and can comfortably fit everyone. Thankfully we discovered Crooked Tree Farm Farmhouse in Bellaire, Michigan!

There is nothing quite like summertime in Northern Michigan. And there's no better place to explore all that this region has to offer than the centrally-located Hotel Walloon which sits nestled along the shores Walloon Lake. This privately owned boutique hotel features spacious guest rooms, elegant design, rich history, and world-class service. In addition to the charming Walloon Village, you're also just a short drive away from Petoskey, Boyne City, Harbor Springs, Mackinaw Island, and Traverse City.

Middletown is truly the definition of small town charm. They are located in southwestern Ohio between Dayton and Cincinnati. Their main street is bursting with hidden treasures and with 16 murals within a one mile loop, the arts and culture scene is also worth noting. My mom and I recently visited for a girl's weekend getaway and had such a fun time exploring, chatting with locals, and trying some activities for the first time.

Historic homes, rich history, unique architecture, and trees dripping in Spanish moss..Savannah, Georgia is truly the definition of southern charm. Add in the open container laws and location to nearby Tybee Island, it made the perfect destination for our annual sister trip. We were there in mid-April and heard from a few locals that it was the perfect time to visit before the hot, humid temperatures and bugs arrived. For being a major city, it certainly had kept its small town charm and it never felt crowded or stressful to navigate.

Northern Michigan keeps me coming back again and again no matter the season. But there is just something so magical about visiting during the fall as Mother Nature begins to paint the rolling landscape with vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows. "Up north" as we like to call it, is one of the first areas in Michigan to peak with color. While the exact time varies every year depending on a number of factors, the second or third weekend in October is typically the perfect time to plan a trip. This year I hit the road for the ultimate fall getaway with my mom in Charlevoix, Michigan. I had only ever passed through this quaint town or visited for the day so I was excited to have three full days to explore.

Labor Day weekend typically marks the unofficial end of summer, and my sister and I couldn't let the season pass without squeezing in one last girl's weekend getaway. We packed our bags and headed 4.5 hours south to French Lick, Indiana where we spent two nights at the beautiful French Lick Resort. It was my first time visiting and I had heard so many great things about the area, including the breathtaking history and architecture of the hotel itself. We were blessed with lots of sunshine and had two days packed full of adventure, with of course some time for a little pampering and relaxation.

As much as I love to travel and explore new destinations, I also have those select few places that keep me coming back again and again. Northern Michigan is definitely one of those and is a beautiful area to explore no matter the season. We love Traverse City, Michigan for so many reasons and make it a goal to visit at least once every summer. Since we'd been there multiple times before, the focus of this trip was to discover new restaurants and wineries which made it seem like it was our first time visiting all over again.

I love calling Southwest Michigan home for so many reasons. In addition to being located along the gorgeous shores of Lake Michigan, it's also one of five American Viticulture Areas in Michigan. The sloping terrain, mild temperatures and variety of soils make it the perfect location for growing grapes and other fruits that serve as the inspiration for a vast array of award winning wines. In fact, our growing season has been compared to noteworthy destinations such as Bordeaux, France and Piedmont, Italy.
With more than 20 wineries dotting the landscape along the Maker's Trail, you can easily enjoy an afternoon or an entire weekend with a glass in hand. In fact, I've lived here for over six years and still have yet to make it to all of our wineries. But fear not, I have done my fair share of sipping (all in the name of research of course) and am sharing my top picks for planning a tour along the Lake Michigan Wine Trail. Over the years I've had friends move all across the country and aside from missing them dearly, the one upside is that each time I have to say goodbye I get to add another new city to my bucket list. My friend Ellie recently moved to Cleveland, Tennessee which is just outside Chattanooga and I recently boarded a plane for a girl's weekend reunion. Although my visit happened to be during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, a time I'm sure no traveler will ever forget, we still had a few days to get out and enjoy the city. Read on to discover my list of Chattanooga highlights, perfect for a one or two day visit.
I hopped off the plane at LAX. Look to the right and I see the Hollywood Sign.
Okay, okay enough with the Miley Cyrus references, but in all honestly it has always been a dream of mine to visit California. The celebrities, the west coast vibe, and of course the gorgeous coastline - it was all calling my name. So when my sister and I were deciding where we should go for our third annual sister trip (#1 Waco and #2 Nashville) it seemed like a great choice. We visited in mid-February and the weather most days was mid 60s which was a welcome change from the Michigan winter we were used to and actually felt a lot warmer with the sun out. Most of the areas we went to weren't as busy as I was expecting them to be and this time of year definitely seemed like an off season. In addition to exploring West Hollywood, we also spent time in Santa Monica and Malibu.
